Install Snip & Sketch App on Windows Pc
DownloadSnip & Sketch is a handy built-in utility in Windows 10 that allows you to easily capture and annotate screenshots. It's a great improvement over the older Snipping Tool.
📸 Launching Snip & Sketch
There are a few quick ways to open the application:
Keyboard Shortcut Method
The fastest way is using the dedicated keyboard shortcut:
- Press $\mathbf{Windows\ key} + \mathbf{Shift} + \mathbf{S}$ simultaneously. This dims your screen and brings up a small toolbar at the top, allowing you to immediately start capturing a snip.
Search and Open Method
If you prefer using the search bar:
- Click the Start Menu or the Search bar (or press the Windows key).
- Type "Snip & Sketch" and click the app result to open the main window. From here, click the New button to start a capture.
✂️ Capturing a Snip
Once you've initiated the snip (via the keyboard shortcut or the New button), you'll see a toolbar with four options:
- Rectangular Snip: Drag a box to capture a specific rectangular area.
- Freeform Snip: Draw any shape you like to capture an irregular area.
- Window Snip: Select a window (like a browser or an application) to capture its entire contents.
- Fullscreen Snip: Captures your entire screen.
Choose your preferred option and take the screenshot. The captured image will automatically open in the Snip & Sketch editing window.
📝 Annotating and Saving
In the editing window, you'll find various tools to mark up your screenshot:
Editing Tools
Use tools like the pen, pencil, and highlighter to draw, circle, or emphasize parts of the image. The eraser can remove annotations, and the ruler/protractor helps with straight lines.
Once you've made your edits, click the Save icon (it looks like a floppy disk) at the top right, choose a location, and your annotated screenshot is saved as a file!
